our three year old children building towers and structures with blocks. Some children were building together cooperatively and some were building alone. We didn’t have to teach the children about symmetry, balance, or fractions, but they were learning the concepts just the same. Noah placed one long block horizontally on his tower, and then he placed two blocks, each half the size of the longer block, on top. Although one was a half circle and one was a triangle, the blocks balanced one another and together, they made a whole the size of the longer block. He tried to put a bigger block on top of the smaller blocks, but quickly realized that the point of the triangle wouldn’t allow him to do that.
a child walked up to two children who were building a tall tower and said, “May I knock it down?” Wow!! This is a big step for a child this age, to control impulses and to think of the wishes and feelings of others. When the school year began this class was made up of impulsive two -year-olds. Now it is filled with three-year-olds who possess a little bit more self control and a greater understanding of others. I was equally impressed when the answer to the child’s question was “No,” and the child walked away and didn’t do something he really, really, really wanted to do. That takes empathy. That takes self control. That takes communication. All of this is growth and learning, toddler and preschool style.

Saturday, Feb. 25th from 9:30 AM-12:00 PM is our annual Young at Art festival. All are invited to join us as we celebrate the arts. Our classrooms are filled with creative art activities for children up to age 9. This year we will focus on “Global Arts” with activities that include mud painting (Ghana), tangrams (China), quilts (USA), and decorating a celebration chair (Austria). Tell family and friends and enjoy in the fun.
Registration is open for the 2012/13 school year. We will be hosting an open house week Feb. 27th-Mar. 1st from 9:15 AM-12:30 PM. Parents and staff will be available to answer questions and lead tours of the classroom and the school. Registrations will be accepted. Call 333-4007 to schedule an appointment any time.

We’re adding extra classes to accomodate the many children wishing to become involved in our school. That means there are openings NOW in almost every single class we offer! We invite you to call at 333-4007 or visit our school for a tour Monday-Thursday mornings this summer. Call for an appointment or stop in if you feel lucky!
Our orientation meetings will focus on “Partnerships and Friendship.” We will explore ways children develop partnerships with adults and friendships with their peers. We’re looking forward to forming partnerships and friendships with all the children and their parents this school year!

Wow! What Weather!

We hope all our families are staying safe and cozy. School will not meet on Wednesday, Feb. 2nd to celebrate Groundhog Day! Actually, we are not meeting in order to keep our children safe! We hope to see everyone Thursday and Friday, but will follow the decisions of the Monroe County Community School Corporation. If MCCSC does not meet or has a 2 hour delay, school will not be open.

Kindergarten Open House rescheduled

Join us Thursday, Jan. 27th at 6:30 PM for our rescheduled Kindergarten Open House. We will look at the latest research on kindergarten, our project- based curriculum, and you will get to meet with our teacher and visit the classroom. Registration is now OPEN for the 2011/12 school year! We have room for up to 16 children in our half-day program–bring your child and join the fun!

Kindergarten Open House Postponed

The Kindergarten Open House scheduled for Thursday, January 20th at 6:30 PM is being rescheduled for Thursday, January 27th at 6:30 PM. We are sorry for any inconvenience. Families are welcome to call to schedule a visit to the kindergarten during class time. Call the office at 333-4007 to schedule a visit.
Registration for kindergarten will begin this week as scheduled. Forms and fees will be accepted in the school office.

Hi friends,
There will be no school today due to the winter weather coming into our area. We are sorry for any inconvenience this causes.
How about making a cup of hot chocolate with your child this morning? Or bring some snow into the house and paint it with watercolor.

The weather outside is frightful, and so school will not meet Thursday, December 16th. Happy Holiday wishes to all our Tuesday/Thursday families. We look forward to seeing you in the new year!

A fun activity for your snow day: make puffy paint! Use equal parts flour, salt and water, and add food coloring or liquid water color. Then put the concoction into snack or sandwich sized baggies. Zip the lock, and cut a corner off the bottom. The children can squeeze the puffy paint through the hole onto paper, making beautiful art–maybe a holiday card or two!

Due to the snow and severe cold, there will be a two hour delay for MCCSC, which means that we will not be meeting on Tuesday. We will miss everyone!
For a fun home activity, play a game of hide-and-seek. OR put 10 items on a tray. Have your child look at the tray and study the items. Then cover the items with a towel and take away one item. Uncover the tray and see if your child can tell you what you took away. Try it again by taking two items, or let your child remove an item and see if YOU can guess what’s missing!
